How Vehicle Diagnostics Work
We at Advanced European Repair use a combination of hardware and software to analyze, monitor, and repair your vehicle’s condition. Our vehicle diagnostic equipment uses the onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) port under your vehicle’s dash to read stored codes. The codes are just the first step in diagnosing the problem.
For example, if your vehicle’s electronic control module (ECM) sends an oxygen sensor code, that’s not the end of the diagnosis. We have to figure out why the ECM stored that code. What we do know is that the air-to-fuel mixture is most likely incorrect in the exhaust. Many factors could cause an incorrect mixture, including bad spark plugs or malfunctioning coils and injectors.
Diagnostic Tools
Once we pull the error codes, we work with additional diagnostic tools to determine the problem. These additional tools allow us to watch the data in action while the vehicle is running. We can track each sensor and sender to see what it is sending to the ECM. We can also check the voltage at the wiring harness to the sensor and lots more to diagnose your vehicle.
